Official says Western partners of Avtotor may return to joint work

ST. PETERSBURG, Jun 14 (PRIME) -- The former Western partners of Russian carmaker Avtotor would like to return to joint work with the company, and there is a chance that it may happen under a different name, Kaliningrad Region’s Governor Anton Alikhanov told PRIME on Wednesday during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“Our former partners show some signs of life, but I cannot disclose any details. They would like to return to this work, and I will say that there is a real chance for that to actually happen, but may happen under a different name,” he said.

Before the spring of 2022, Avtotor mainly assembled cars of BMW, Kia, and Hyundai. In January 2023, Avtotor started partnership with China’s Kaiyi, and launched assembly of the cars of China’s BAIC in April.
